Fence & Deck Painting
These types of jobs are usually a lot different than the ones that we do in houses or just walls overall. For starters, most decks and some fences can’t just be painted with any type of paint that you can find. We have actually been called in to help after someone tried to use their paint sprayer on their wooden fence like in the commercials. After they did this they realized that they had made a huge mistake. We always stress that you need to have a strategy for every job that you do. When you don’t it is easier to make those silly mistakes.
Staining or Painting?
This is one of the first questions that people have or actually should have when it comes to taking care of these areas. For the most part, we are not going to be painting over wood. So for the decks what we are going to be doing is staining. If you want to have both things done that is also something that we can take care of. With staining, you are not only giving it that shiny look you are also going to be preventing a lot of the moisture issues that are at times even typical of wood.
What Type of Fence Are We Talking About?
In fence painting, we see that a lot of times people really don’t take the matter all that serious. That is actually a pretty big issue. You can’t just repaint with any type of paint and expect some top results to come out of nowhere. That is just not how things work. If you chose the wrong type of paint for metal fences, for example, you could be helping the fence rust! Which is obviously not ideal. Therefore the best advice that we could give is to seek out proper advice.
Painting The Old Fashion Way
When it comes to painting fences especially we are usually going to want to use a traditional brush for the job. The reason why we are going to want to do this is that paint sprayers will waste too much paint. There are different types of rollers that could work, but there is at times a unique look that you are going to be able to obtain from the brush. Since we are going to be dealing with individual poles at times it can be a relatively quick option. This is just one of the scenarios where we still show that old school style that we like to talk about.
Will Painting My Deck Prevent Decay?
Staining and painting decks is obviously a big part of their upkeep. These areas that are located outdoors are usually going to be taking a lot more damage therefore they are going to need a lot more care. Repainting though is not the only way to keep the deck looking fresh, Properly washing your deck from time to time can also go a long way in helping any surface regain that long lost flair.
