Popcorn Ceiling Removal
At this point in time, at least at the time of writing of this page, asbestos are becoming less and less of an issue. If you are not fully familiar with what asbestos are, they are natural forming minerals. These minerals where often used in the construction of homes. The problem came when someone noticed that they could release certain toxins that, were harmful to human beings. This was a huge problem at the time as asbestos where widely used in construction. For the most part, though they were no longer used in construction by the 70s. If you think that you may have this type of problem or you just don’t like the way that your ceiling looks then read on.
Inspections
This is the first thing that we are going to want to go through. Although it is becoming increasingly less likely that you would have an asbestos problem, just based on the fact that a lot of homes built in that era are no longer around, it may be something that you are going to want to rule out. If that is the case we can head over to your home and provide an inspection of the area to see what we would be able to do to help.
You Do Have An Asbestos Problem
If it is determined that you do have an asbestos problem then we will take all of the precautions necessary in the removal process. It is not just about smoothening out a particular area of the ceiling. A lot of times we are going to need to thoroughly clean out the area. You may even have to leave your home for a couple of days. Very similar to the way that you would have to deal with a major mold or termite issue. It is better to take all of the necessary precautions.
What The Actual Removal Process Looks Like
When we are not dealing with asbestos what we are going to do is make sure that we scrape all of the texture off the ceiling. We are going to then sand it and joint compound to basically the entire area to make sure that we are going to be able to smoothen things out. From there all that is really left do is go ahead and repaint. Of course, this is something that sounds super easy on paper. Yet, being able to do it while on a ladder and those types of things certainly make the issue a lot more complex.
Adding New Texture
So you want to remove the popcorn, but you do want to have texture. How can we get that done? Well, there are a few ways that we can do it. We are going to complete the process that we basically briefly mentioned. From there instead of just using normal paint we can use a roller with a pattern on it. This is usually one of the more effective ways to add texture. So overall no big deal.
